Creating multi-line "Release Notes" popup

I need to create a menu option that will display a popup window displaying a listing of changes that have been made to a script.  One of the requirements is that it must be included in the main script and not using an external document file (as I had originally hoped to use).    Instead, I've created a function that would use a string variable to allow me to add text on as needed later.  However, it appears that the usual \n for new lines is not working.  Here is my current code:

When I run the code above, the string starting 1.1 appears directly after the word 'time' in the 1.0 string.  I would have hoped to be able to display the text using a single variable that is set up in a bunch of lines like I have above, but if this can't be done, how do I do this?  Do I have to use a multi-line text box?  Also, is it possible to have the text automatically break to a new line if the text is longer than that width of the window?
